COTTONWOOD FALLS -- Today, Rob Wasinger, Republican candidate for Congress in the first district of Kansas, commented on the nomination of Elena Kagan to fill the Supreme Court seat vacated by Justice Stevens.
"Instead of nominating an independent jurist with a legal record that could be closely examined, Obama chose a friend who I believe will act as a rubberstamp for his liberal agenda," said Wasinger. "When President Bush nominated Harriet Miers, I worked with Senator Brownback to lead the behind-the-scenes opposition to her nomination. I hope that Democrats in the Senate will put principle above politics and demand that Kagan's nomination be withdrawn."
Wasinger served as chief-of-staff to U.S. Senator Sam Brownback while Brownback served on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Wasinger is a fourth generation Kansan and resides in Cottonwood Falls with his wife, Meghan, and their nine children. The Wasingers are expecting another child in late May.
