The Second Amendment undeniably protects an individual right to gun ownership. We must put a stop to those who seek to rewrite the Constitution and impose restrictive gun control laws that do nothing to prevent crime, and instead place law-abiding citizens in danger.

The areas of this country with the strictest gun control laws also have the highest incidents of violent crime. The evidence continually demonstrates that strict gun control measures are a spectacular failure.

There is legislation working its way through Congress that would require gun owners to unnecessarily submit significant private information - such as photographs, thumbprints, and mental health records - to the federal government.

Furthermore, anti-gun advocates continue to seek reinstatement of the failed so-called "assault weapons ban," and just recently were successful in blocking interstate right-to-carry legislation.

As your congressman, I will not support any attempts to chisel away at the rights protected by the Second Amendment. As a gun owner, I understand the importance of the Second Amendment.

I also understand the great responsibility that comes with gun ownership. As a parent, I have taught my children to respect firearms; we haven't needed directions from Washington on how to practice gun safety.

Unfortunately, our Second Amendment rights have never been at greater risk than they are today.

Congressional Democrats, aided by an unapologetic, liberal, gun-grabber in the White House, are waging an all out war on this fundamental right the Founding Fathers fought so hard to protect.

Just this past summer, President Obama's first nominee to the United States Supreme Court actually refused to acknowledge that the Second Amendment protects a fundamental right, nor would she acknowledge that there is a right to self-defense.

If you send me to Washington you will be telling the current leadership in Congress that you reject their activist anti-gun agenda, and that you support the Founders' vision of America.

Without strong Republican voices in Washington, Nancy Pelosi will continue to impose radical San Francisco values on middle-America. Congress must be stopped from trampling on the Constitution and infringing our right to keep and bear arms.

As your congressman, I will oppose all efforts to undermine the Second Amendment and I will work to repeal all overly restrictive gun control laws currently on the books.
