Illegal Immigration

The United States has always prided itself on respect for the rule of law. That is why securing our borders and stopping illegal immigration must be a national priority if we want to protect our national sovereignty. I support policies that would enhance the protection of our borders and make it tougher for immigrants to cross into our country without going through the proper legal channels. Congress has the responsibility to encourage better enforcement of our laws to prevent terrorists, drug smugglers, and criminals from harming our families.  There are the real consequences of inaction that cannot be ignored.

I would oppose any legislation that would grant amnesty to people whose first act in coming to this country was to break the law by coming here illegally. There is a legal system for immigration, but the problem of widespread illegal immigration has complicated and compromised our criminal justice system and law enforcement resources. The first step is to get control of our borders. I also support making English the official language of the United States, a language that has helped our country grow stronger and work together in our communities, our business and in our government.
