There is a growing alarm at the rapid growth of government in America.  People across the country are becoming deeply apprehensive about the burgeoning federal budget, an exploding federal debt, government's intrusive-and seemingly arbitrary-regulation of business, and the expanding reach of federal controls into every detail of our private and community life. Instead of continuing down this reckless path, I pledge to improve both sides of our fiscal equation: reduce taxes and lower spending.

The Second Amendment undeniably protects an individual right to gun ownership. We must put a stop to those who seek to rewrite the Constitution and impose restrictive gun control laws that do nothing to prevent crime, and instead place law-abiding citizens in danger. The evidence continually demonstrates that strict gun control measures are a spectacular failure.



I want to give you some straight talk on health care -- I was and continue to remain passionately opposed to the health care reform that passed Congress earlier this year. The bottom line is that as your next Congressman, I will do everything in my power to repeal that horrific piece of legislation and replace it with common-sense reforms that will benefit rural Kansans. The reform proposal that passed will undoubtedly result in rationed care, increased taxes, higher premiums, and more debt for our grandchildren. 

The United States has always prided itself on respect for the rule of law. That is why securing our borders and stopping illegal immigration must be a national priority if we want to protect our national sovereignty. I support policies that would enhance the protection of our borders and make it tougher for immigrants to cross into our country without going through the proper legal channels. Congress has the responsibility to encourage better enforcement of our laws to prevent terrorists, drug smugglers, and criminals from harming our families.  There are the real consequences of inaction that cannot be ignored.
